To get an accurate estimate, start by counting the number of drinks you plan to have. Most recipes are based on a single serving, so multiply by the number of cocktails. Next, enter the total carbohydrate content per serving. How Glycemic Load Is Calculated

Glycemic load (GL) combines the quality of carbohydrates (GI) with the quantity of carbohydrates in an actual serving. The formula is:

GL = (available carbohydrates in grams × glycemic index) ÷ 100

Available carbohydrates are total carbohydrates minus dietary fiber. If a drink has 20 g of total carbs and 2 g fiber, you use 18 g. Example 2: Dry martini. A dry martini has roughly 1–2 g of carbs from vermouth. With a GI around 20, GL per serving = (2 × 20) ÷ 100 = 0.4 → very low. Even three martinis stay below 1.5 GL.
